The Modern Bestiary, by Joanna Bagniewska, Illustrated by Jennifer N. R. Smith
From the familiar to the improbable, the gross to the endearing, The Modern Bestiary is a compendium of curious creatures. It includes both animals that have made headlines and those you've probably never heard of, such as skin-eating caecilians, harp sponges, or zombie worms - also known as bone-eating snot flowers.
The end papers are not only a pattern, but a functional phylogenetic tree of the species featured in the book.
Inspired by medieval bestiarys, the featured animals are categorised by the elements: earth, air, and water.
Inside, there are 100 animals featured, each with it's own header illustration.
